*Job Description*

Under the leadership of the Associate Director, supervises directly all technical and service activities of Microbiology, Mycology and Parasite and Tropical Disease Laboratories. Prepares documentation, manuals, and technical reports. Interacts with Laboratory Administration and technical staff to ensure that laboratory services are provided timely and accurately.
* Direct and supervise all laboratory technical staff. Establish the work schedule and assignments for personnel in the identification of fungal and bacterial isolates from clinical samples via analysis of their biochemical and morphological properties, using manual and automated methods
* Train technical staff relative to instrumentation and understanding of concept of the test procedure being performed e.g. primary isolation and identification of fungal pathogens and antifungal testing procedures and analysis of clinical samples utilizing biochemical and morphological procedures.



*Minimum Qualifications*

1. Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.
For Appointment to Levels IV and V
1. In addition to meeting the qualification requirement of Assignment Level II, candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 10, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public Health Law.

Special Notes:
Qualifying experience is not limited to New York State.
Candidates that are solely licensed or issued permits to practice as cytotechnologists or histotechnologists may only be assigned work, including supervising personnel performing laboratory work, in a laboratory discipline/specialty appropriate to their license or permit. Candidates that are licensed or hold permits to practice as clinical laboratory technologists may be assigned work, including supervising personnel performing laboratory work, in all laboratory disciplines/specialties.
